Biography

One Arab. One Jew. One Stage. Comedy's Odd Couple.

Imagine top-notch comedy, two seasoned performers with unique "hooks," and beneath it all, an implicit but not preachy message of healing and understanding. That is what Ahmed Ahmed and Rabbi Bob Alper present, and is why audiences of Jews, Muslims, and Christians find themselves enjoying nonstop laughter.

Alper and Ahmed charm their audiences with clean humor and keep them laughing. "One Muslim. One Jew. One Stage" is bright, fast-paced, and family friendly. They have received warm, positive recognition internationally, including CNN's American Morning, NPR, BBC, Newsday, The Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle (front page), The Boston Sunday Globe, USA Today, and The Hollywood Reporter. Comedy's Odd Couple has been written about in The Baltimore Sun, the Catholic Exchange, the Denver Post, London Daily Telegraph, The Advocate, The New York Jewish Week, and the St. Petersburg Florida Times.

Bob Alper is the only rabbi in the country who regularly addresses congregations that require a cover charge and a two-drink minimum. Bob Alper is the world's only practicing clergyman doing stand-up comedy... intentionally. His contemporary and unorthodox style has been delighting audiences from Hollywood's IMPROV to The Montreal Comedy Festival. His unique brand of intelligent, clean humor appeals to everyone - from a synagogue or church crowd to corporate events, colleges, and theatres throughout North America and London.

A graduate of Lehigh University, Bob Alper was ordained at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, and is the first Jewish person ever to earn a doctorate from the Princeton Theological Seminary. He has served congregations in Buffalo and Philadelphia, where he continues to conduct High Holiday services.

In 1986 Bob Alper began his comedy career when he entered the "Jewish Comic of the Year Contest." Television, radio, and personal appearances followed; he has been seen on Good Morning America, Showtime, the BBC, CNN, and was featured on Extra. Bob Alper is the author of two books: Life Doesn't Get Any Better Than This, an inspirational collection now in its fifth printing, and the award-winning full-color cartoon book, A Rabbi Confesses He has also produced two best-selling comedy CDs.
