His singular perspective has earned him recognition as the forward thinker of the information age. Whether personal computing, home computing, desktop publishing, personal communication, Internet publishing or online marketing, Mr. Tchong has always been at the leading edge. Throughout his career, Michael Tchong has shown a knack for catching the latest wave, proving his uncanny ability to zero in on the most important emerging trends. He was born on the Caribbean island of Aruba, is half-Chinese and speaks Dutch natively--all factors that have contributed to his insightful, global vision. At the forefront of trends and technologies since the late 70s, in 1977 Mr. Tchong worked on emerging personal computer brands Commodore PET and Atari 400, and in 1981 he created the first reach-and-frequency program ever for the HP 41C calculator. He was the first media planner to use an Apple III computer and VisiCalc to computerize advertising schedules, and in 1983, Michael Tchong taught marketing seminars on the emerging market of home computing. Currently, media and event properties are analyzed and produced by Michael Tchong through Ubercool. As a trend analyst, his mission is to show how to create superior products and services that leverage changes in business, lifestyle, and technology. Mr. Tchong has enjoyed a remarkable and distinguished career in advertising, software, publishing and the Internet. Prior to Ubercool, he founded five successful companies including MacWEEK, where his intuitive sense that the Macintosh would become the tool of choice for the graphic arts industry lifted this weekly’s annual revenues from less than $500,000 to $18 million in just four years. In 1992, he started Atelier Systems, which focused on “personal communication” software. Realizing the potential of the Internet back in 1994, Michael Tchong founded Interstellar, a consulting and publishing company, which spawned CyberAtlas, a preeminent market research site. His subsequent start-up, ICONOCAST, a bi-weekly online newsletter aimed at the emerging wave of Internet marketing, was sold in 1998. In January 2003, Michael Tchong launched Trendscape, which published a weekly newsletter, Trendsetters.com, aimed at trend-watchers and trendsetters. In November of 2003, Trendscape published its first trend report, Trendscape 2004. Condensed, detailed, and photo-rich, Trendscape 2004 describes significant trends shaping society, including automotive, fashion, phones, organic food, real estate, retail, and travel. In October 2004, Michael Tchong sold Trendsetters.com to Iconoculture. Michael Tchong’s speaking and communication skills have drawn rave reviews. His speaking engagements include the Advertising Club of Toronto, Apple Computer (Paris), the Clio Interactive Awards, the Congressional Technology Tour, the Florida Venture Forum, GTE Interactive Media, InnoTown 2005 (Norway), Intuit, Johnson & Johnson, Leadership Roundtable Conference, Logitech, McKesson, Merck, Microsoft Leadership Forum, MSN, the Newspaper Association of America, Newsweek, San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Yahoo!, to name just a few.
