Biography

Margaret "Peggy" Cifrino has worked for General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret) for over 18 years. She is currently the principal assistant to General Powell and manages his office in Alexandria, Virginia. She is the primary liaison between the General and the government, corporate and private sectors. She serves as his spokeswoman, scheduler, and advisor on various matters.

From January 2001 to January 2005, Ms. Cifrino served as deputy chief of staff to Secretary Powell at the State Department, traveling with him both abroad and domestically.

Before serving at the State Department, Peggy Cifrino was General Powell's executive assistant (1993-2000), following his retirement as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She assisted General Powell in researching his best-selling autobiography, My American Journey (1995).

From 1981 to 1993, Ms. Cifrino served as a special assistant in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon. Prior to that, she was a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill. She is a graduate of West Virginia University.

Peggy Cifrino serves on the Board of Directors of the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum in Washington, DC, which celebrates the history of women's progress towards equality.
