Biography

As a professional keynote speaker Doug Nielsen is the Content Speaker with Spunk. A corporate event/conference with him is life changing and enduring. He tops the list of inspirational keynote speakers. His powerful message--"Take Life by the Helm"--empowers audiences with attitudes and skills to take ownership for their lives personally and professionally. Weeks, months, and years after an event, participants remember his message and can quickly apply one of his tools to put them in control of their lives here and now.

Mr. Nielsen has a gift for connecting to the human spirit and instilling hope. He has been instrumental in assisting thousands of individuals overcome self-imposed limitations and to accelerate personal achievement. He infuses his audiences with energy and enthusiasm. In working with him, participants learn how to gain control of their lives and develop the motivation to consistently succeed personally and professionally.

Doug Nielsen's father had a drinking problem while he was growing up. He struggled in school. He was the "lead screamer" in a heavy metal rock band. However, his mother and a caring member of his church helped him through many challenging times and instilled in him the drive to turn challenges into opportunities.

Mr. Nielsen earned his bachelor's degree in Clinical Social Work and Psychology and later his Master's degree in Behavioral Science in 1993 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He maintains his private psychotherapy practice one day a week. He gained invaluable real world business experience as Chief Operating Officer of Pioneer Development and Support Services.

Doug Nielsen had a life-altering conversation with Victor Frankl (a concentration camp survivor and author of the book Mans' Search for Meaning) just 6 months before Dr. Frankl died. That conversation served as the springboard for his life work. He has been married for 15 years and has four wonderful children. He finds strength in his religious faith and in donating time to teach karate to under-privileged youth.
