Doug Nielsen's father had a drinking problem while he was growing up. He struggled in school. He was the "lead screamer" in a heavy metal rock band. However, his mother and a caring member of his church helped him through many challenging times and instilled in him the drive to turn challenges into opportunities.
Mr. Nielsen earned his bachelor's degree in Clinical Social Work and Psychology and later his Master's degree in Behavioral Science in 1993 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He maintains his private psychotherapy practice one day a week. He gained invaluable real world business experience as Chief Operating Officer of Pioneer Development and Support Services.
Doug Nielsen had a life-altering conversation with Victor Frankl (a concentration camp survivor and author of the book Mans' Search for Meaning) just 6 months before Dr. Frankl died. That conversation served as the springboard for his life work. He has been married for 15 years and has four wonderful children. He finds strength in his religious faith and in donating time to teach karate to under-privileged youth.
